Services and Programs  

 

Catch Program\Visiting Physician Program:  Dr. Jenkins is our visiting physician.  He visits our school once a week to provide help for students that qualify for medical care.

Computer Lab - The compuELS English as a Second Languageter lab is open from 7:15 to 3:10 each school day.  Each class gets a scheduled 30 - 45 minutes each week to use programs such as PLATO, Heartsoft, PAWS in Typing Town, Type to learn, Jump Start, Letter Bugs, STAR Reading and Accelerated Reading.  The lab is used for taking AR tests, research, and working on student portfolios. Conservation Education Program - This program is offered to all fifth graders once a month and is sponsored by Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

D.A.R.E. - Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a program sponsored by Henderson City Police Department and presented to the fifth graders each year.

ELS English as a Second Language- The ESL Program is a federally funded program designed to provide additional English instruction through in-class and out-of-class support to students with a native language other than English.

E.S.S. (Extended School Services) The ESS program is made available to students who need additional time to achieve educational goals.  The program  is held after school.  If your child qualifies for this service you will receive written notification giving details.  For more information contact: Jan Kellen

Friends: :FRC (Family Resource Center)   We have a great team that works with our children in our after school child care program.      *For more information on the district program click here, HCS child care program*

Gifted and Talented Program- Encore and Primary Talent Pool - Our district offers services for our gifted and talented students.  The primary children are accepted into the Primary Talent Pool program until they leave the third grade.  The children that qualify then move into the Encore program for children in the fourth and fifth grades.  These programs are also offered in the middle schools and at the high school.

Guidance Counselor: We are lucky to have such a great  person as a guidance counselor  She offers individual and group sessions as well as classroom instruction. Check out her web page.

Parent Involvement - Our school has a parent volunteer program.  We are most grateful for the help that these parents lend to our children and our school.  If you are interested in helping in our school please contact your child's teacher or the wonderful ladies in our office. 270-533-1760.

Piano Lab -There are only three piano labs in our school system and we are proud to be one of them. Our wonderful music teacher provides our children with the opportunity to create and play music.

Pre-school- Preschool is a program that focuses on the child's physical, intellectual, social and emotional development.  Children are encouraged to solve problems, initiate activities, explore and learn by doing.  We are lucky to have this program at our school.

PTA - Our Parent Teacher Association takes an active roll.  We work to represent our  students and their families.

Special Education: Henderson County's Department of Special Education is a team of professionals that believes all kids can learn. Our staff is dedicated to serving students with special needs in the least restrictive environment.  We have a great special need program at our school. 

Speech and Hearing specialist:  We have two specialists at our school and they work will several pre-school children as well as the children that qualify in our school.

Title 1- AB Chandler is a Title 1 school.  This means that all students may benefit from Title 1 staff, resources and funds.
Title I is a federally funded program to provide supplemental help to students who are below average in a school targeted area.  The program is funded  based on a certain percentage of free and reduced lunch.
